ARTWORK
BLUE RIDGE PASSAGE
This piece began as an extension of my project from the previous Pixels Art show- not only the composition, but the subject matter. During the year in-between, I became hyper-fixated on western themes, specifically the bison, and it became the central figure again.
This time, the bison isn’t alone. I imagined a group of travelers, with the dog and bird being companions picked up along the way. Each member of the group has a role to play in the journey and I wanted to encompass an idea of togetherness. The star above represents the binary star Algol, also known as the “Demon Star”. It serves as a looming omen overhead. I like to think that the hunter and bison wouldn’t make it without adding to their party.

ADORATION OF THE MAGI
This piece was conceptualized and finished within the span of three days. I didn’t initially plan on submitting two pieces for the Portals Art Show, but wanted to play on the idea of a portal. If the hunter is who enters the passage, who comes back?
Wanting to have a piece that deviated slightly than the first, I leaned toward a more mystical aspect, hence the giant bear as a steed for a magic wielding character. I also wanted to have a different party this time. So, this new group isn’t an exact reflection of the original, but a variant in a way (and definitely more unconventional than the first).

WINTER SOLSTICE
This piece was created at a time where I felt stuck in my style- especially after the success of the Pixels show the previous year. Thankfully, I was able to find some footing in western iconography. Hence the name reflecting the rebirth, and the eclipse in the upper portion of the composition. I wanted to incorporate something technically complex to accompany the simplistic bison below.

PERFECT CIRCLE: ODYSSEY
This was my first submission for an art show of any kind. From the moment of receiving word of the show to the piece’s completion, I found a new level of stress that was ultimately turned into focus.
I wanted to create something uniquely myself. At this time, I was still finding myself as an artist and was admittedly very lost. Through much trial and error, scrapped ideas, conceptualization, the piece was finished.
Perfect Circle: Odyssey remains my favorite work ever created. I also consider it the beginning of my art career.
